Friends of St. Nicholas:

As part of our ongoing commitment to support our community, we are reaching out with several opportunities and requests for assistance:

  1. Volunteer Assistance Needed: We are seeking volunteers to help provide companionship during the day for the adult brother of a Friend of St. Nicholas. He is watched by relatives, and they could use an occasional break for other duties. This role requires minimal active duties but plays a crucial part in offering solace and presence. Volunteers should contact the SNBS for more information at [email protected].
  2. Transportation for Families: Several families in our parish are in need of transportation assistance. If you have the capacity to offer rides or know someone who might, please let us know so we can coordinate efforts to support these families in their daily needs.
  3. Prayers for Community Members: We request your prayers for a single mom who is in her final trimester. Additionally, we seek prayers for a positive outcome in an ongoing custody case that affects her children. Your spiritual support is invaluable during these challenging times.
  4. Support for Our Choir Director: Our Choir and Choralschola Director at Mary Immaculate has been instrumental in providing Gregorian Chant for our liturgies, inspiring many with his dedication. We encourage you to show your support and appreciation by donating to help cover the significant travel, time, and costs he incurs to enhance our sacred liturgies at Holy Ghost. If making an online donation, please be sure to mark your gift for MIC Director.

There will be a meeting of the Friends of St. Nicholas on Saturday morning at 6:30 AM, May 4, 2024 at Perkins Restaurant & Bakery at 205 W. Third St., Bethlehem, PA 18015 (on the south side of the Hill to Hill bridge). This is not an Directors meeting, but rather a chance for the Friends to convene and discuss urgent needs of the Community. All are welcome.

Update on Young Mother

Good Work, Good News, and a Thank You!

The first issue of Acta, the newsletter of the SNBS, featured a story about a young mother of two boys, expecting a third child, who was striving to gain custody of her children and establish a home for her family. The Friends of St. Nicholas have supported her through friendship, assistance, counseling, and prayer, helping her move in the right direction.

Among the charitable efforts, many of the Friends helped the young mother clean up a trash-laden property to avoid local fines and prepare it for a new home. This endeavor involved significant labor, with some volunteers even bringing heavy equipment to clear the site.

The young mother also faced legal challenges, needing to appeal fines exceeding $10,000 due to the site's initial poor condition. The judge, recognizing the cleanup efforts, temporarily waived the fines, contingent on no further complaints from the local zoning board within 20 days—a condition that appears to have been met.

Expressing deep gratitude, the young mother thanked her fellow parishioners for their generous assistance during a stressful and challenging time. She is profoundly thankful for the kindness and concern shown to her.
